ETIS 2024 is set in the heart of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons) in Wales. This stunning location offers a unique, close-to-nature experience for participants. The park is home to the Fforest Fawr UNESCO Global Geopark and is an International Dark Sky Reserve. The area is known for its grassy moorlands, heather-clad escarpments, and Old Red Sandstone peaks, which have been softened by weather and time. Accommodation
The first two days will be based at Parkwood Outdoors, Dolygaer. Set next to a babbling stream and large reservoir nestled in rolling hills, it provides a unique setting to inspire creativity and learning. Accommodation options include a lodge and camping. The final day and a half will move the workshop programme to be embedded within a South Wales community a short distance away in Abertillery. Here, we will be joined by local enthusiasts where the participant’s skills and learning can be developed in collaboration.
A gala event on the final evening will be hosted in the grounds of Parkwood Outdoors with transport arrangements from Abertillary after the end of activities there on the following day.
Getting There
Delegates will be transported to Parkwood Outdoors, Dolygaer by shuttle bus (pick-up times TBC) from Merthyr Railway station to where there are frequent connecting trains from Cardiff Central.
By Plane
Cardiff International Airport is located approx 30 minutes from Cardiff’s City Centre with regular transport links to the city. The 304 Adventure Travel Bus service operates an hourly service from the airport and taxis services are also available. Bristol Airport is located approx 1 hour from Cardiff’s City Centre. Delegates have the option of taking the A1 Bristol Flyer to Bristol’s Temple Meads train station and continuing their onward journey by train or booking the 216 National Express coach from the airport to Cardiff. By Train
Train Station: Cardiff Central
Regular services run to and from Cardiff Central from a wide range of locations, including London, Bristol, Manchester and Birmingham.
Once in the city centre, make your way to Cardiff Metropolitan University’s Llandaff Campus by taxi or by bus: 62, 63, 66 from Westgate Street, stopping at Western Avenue (3min walk).
For those travelling straight to Dolygaer, the nearest train station to Parkwood Outdoors, Dolygaer is at Merthyr Tydfil.
By Car
For delegates wishing to drive directly to the conference venue, Parkwood Outdoors Dolygaer is located to the south of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons), and a short 15 minute drive north of Merthyr Tydfil. The centre is approximately a 45 minute drive from the M4 at Cardiff and an hour from the M50.
